The Jello Dolly has been a long time coming. Meg and and I (Cory) first tried this out in 2010, the only photo of this experiment was taken with a phone and you will see it on the left.

We then actually made a bunch of

faces for Masthead Print Studio's Monster Show. The blue one on the left-most plate with the forehead cut off (we cut them in sixths to serve them) is the best one, I think.

For the Masthead Show (over a year ago), we made the faces peaches and cream:

Peach Schnapps, a little vanilla vodka and SCM. They were delicious.

The coloring of the jello itself is about 3 parts yellow, 1 part red, and 1/4 part blue. Grocery store food coloring was also used for the painting, the standard primary color pack, and the first and third face in the video have white gel food coloring highlights from Fante's.

Pineapple gummy bears soaked in Kraken

Pineapple gummy bears soaked in "Malibu"

Pineapple flavored gummy bears infused with coconut rum, and gummy bears infused with Kraken, black rum. These are placed upon a delicious pineapple coconut jello shot, made with coconut cream, crushed pineapple, and the very rums we used to soak the gummy bears.

The these jello shots were delightfully not so sweet, and the coconut milk gave them a lovely creamy texture. We used a dark, spiced rum, Kracken, to cut the coconut rum* and give the shot's flavor more "dimension".

We soaked the gummy bears for 3 days, and they absorbed the coconut rum a little quicker than the Kraken. Credit where it is due: we had seen vodka soaked gummy bears on instructables.

If we're going to get technical, I may not have realized that Huckleberry Hound and Droopy Dog are different before the research stage of making this.

I am, however, able to recommend this version of (oh my darling) Clementine- which is why we used edible gold glitter to make those puppies sparkle.

The clementines came in a bag, not a box. Whadda rip!

Geez, tough question for me to answer. I didn't get the nickname Moe-rage from my biker buddies by chance. It took a lot of irrational unfettered anger issues, frequently followed by bursts of tears, I'm sure you can relate. It's what a good irish american lass does, right? Anyway, no one can stay mad after offering them a tray of Blue, fruit filled, lemon zest topped Jello shots. Plus dog is spelled dawg! Classic! sure to put a smile on that grumps face.

JELLOGAMI!

We've been experimenting with making Jellogami for a few months now- meaning we tried it a few months ago, and finally got around to taking a photograph.

Well, How'd ya do it?

The "paper" is actually granulated gelatin, water, and food coloring painted over gelatin veining sheets. The origami is faked, we used scissors and "glue" (warmed gelatin and water).

What does it taste like?

That green one in the photo above (there is a video of it's creation below) taste like nothing. The gelatin is unflavored. But the pink ones are ROSE flavored! Delicious! The rose syrup was added with the food coloring. Rose syrup what I had on hand, but we'll try it again with hard candy extracts.

This isn't a Jello shot.

We know. We got the veining sheets (thanks mom!) to decorate our jello shots:

Totally delicious, and a crowd pleasing strawberry chocolate, you could make these tomorrow!

You will need:

Strawberry Jello (we used D'gari*),

A little squeeze of chocolate sauce (optional, but we used it)

Chocolate flavored vodka/rum/liquor/whatever*

Red Food Coloring (optional)

A loaf pan

Sharp knife

White gel food coloring (I got ours at Fantes)+ a tooth pick applicator

Santa Cupcake Picks (I got these at Dino's), trim the picks so they aren't so long.

*D'gari calls for a total of 4 cups of water: we rounded the total down to 3 cups of liquid (half will be water, half will be alcohol), so that they would be firm enough. You might need 3 packages of brand-name Jell-o.

*Used mostly chocolate vodka, but mixed in a little creme de cacao, vanilla vodka, etc. Whatever you have.

Here we go:

1) Dissolve jello powder in 1 1/2 cups of water, by heating it in a sauce pan on low. Add a small squeeze of chocolate sauce, for flavor, texture, and color.

2) Remove from heat after all granules have dissolved and add liquor. Stir.

I added a bit of red food coloring

3) Pour mixture into loaf pan and allow to set several hours.

4) Unmold on to a tray or cookie sheet, cut into cubes.

5) Paint brick mortar with gel coloring and tooth pick, this was a struggle.

6) add Santa picks.

On my way to work, I have the honor of breezing past America's most boring historic sites: Liberty Bell, something called Independence Hall, and several places Ben Franklin once, I don't know, mailed a letter or something. I feel bad for families of grouchy children being dragged from the (wasn't actually) Betsy Ross House to the Merchant Exchange-so I'm ready with suggestions for Federal-Era overdosed tourists.

The kind gentlemen of the Franklin Fountain and Shane Confectionary (historical! hip! fun for everyone!) gave us the vintage metal molds. We also used Art In The Age's Snap, who's flagship is also Old City local.

B.L.B (Bacon, Lettuce, Bloody Mary)

As grunt workers of the service industry, we have our finger on the pulse of what is 'hot' in dining. The ebb and flow of nutrient popularity based on a multitude of requests. Since we get inspiration from every aspect of our lives, this shot is for all my gluten free people. Say Hay! Denying yourselves the tasty goodness of bread (and toast) and by default, the most delicious of bread based fare, the B.L.T.

This B.L.T. in addition to being gluten free, alcohol filled, and sans mayo, differs from tradition in one more way. Instead of T(omato) it's B(loody Mary). Perfect for brunch parties, Lunch parties or a quiet night at home with a good book.

The B.L.B.

Layer 1:

Bloody Mary Mix (recipe below)

Vodka

Layer 2:

Bacon infused vodka

Maple syrup

Layer 3:

Lettuce leaf

Garnish with Lime zest

I used to make this for a restaurant that had a popular brunch so I am used to making it in large quantities. The following will make more Bloody mary mix than you need for these shots. (unless you are catering a wedding.) Feel free to adjust the recipe to your needs and tastes, OR you can drink bloody marys while constructing your shots! In that case, make some extra bacon vodka too!

Bloody Mary Mix
6 cups (48 oz) tomato Juice
1/8 cup horseradish
1 teaspoon of celery seed
1/4 cup guinness (optional)
1 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
the juice of 3 limes
few dashes of Hot sauce (I use cristal, use your favorite)
a dash of smoked paprika (optional)
Fresh ground black pepper.

Taste and modify to your preferences.

It's the Thyme of the Season...

When Love runs High

We know many people believe that spring is the time for love running high, but we personally feel extra loving as the temperature cools and you just want to hug up on some warmth. In honor of this very special time we made some Thyme infused simple syrup. We combined it with clementine peel infused vodka and fresh squeezed Clementine juice in order to help increase vitamin C intake.

Gotta fend off those sniffles if you want your warmth to share a kiss.

The Clementhyme:

Thyme Simple Syrup (instructions below 'read more')

Clementine peel infused vodka

Fresh squeezed Clementine juice

Additionally, you can hollow out one

of your Clementine segments and use

the rind as a lovely Jell-o shot Conduit.

For the thyme simple syrup:

Put 1 cup of sugar in a bowl.

Add your fresh thyme.

(We used approximately 20 five inch sprigs.)

Add one cup hot water.

Allow to cool.

When the syrup has your desired thyme flavor strain into a jar.

You're gonna need a bigger boat.

Coconut cream made a nice matte top for shark teeth

So these were made a little over a year ago, back when Sue (<- link to her adorable blog ) still lived on Oxford as well. I honestly cannot remember what went into these, execpt that the teeth were made with coconut cream that set in such away that there was a delicious, realistic matte finish, and we drizzled it with a blood orange syrup. We used a syringe (flavor infuser?) to bloodstain the blue water/gummy shark shots.

I was cruising the internet on a typical Friday night while rocking out to some Huey Lewis and the News when I came across Gelatinas Artisticas. This style of artistry involves a design, typically floral type encapsulated in the center of gelatin. We have been interested in this style of gelatin design for a while now but with the hit makers crooning in my ears, Great scott! I was inspired to give it a try. This is our first attempt with gelatinas artisticas and our first, but hopefully not our last Huey Lewis and the News inspired shot.

American By Birth, Southern by a Technicality

It's really hot here in Philly, and I'm from the South, so I'm some sort of authority on commenting about the weather. It feels like you are submerged in a bowl of ramen noodles. I was waiting for the bus today and had an honest fear that my capillaries would explode, that I would somehow die from heat exposure on my commute.

So, it's way way too hot to jell: it's too hot to leave my air-condioned bedroom (the only air conditioned room in the house), go to the store for ingredients, operate the stove top, or text my landlord about the fridge being broken (okay, I should probably do that soon).

So to tide you over, I'm giving you something from the B-Squad Vault.
The B- Squad are the shots that, for whatever reason, we don't feel are up to snuff, but we completed and photographed regardless. Sometimes we type up a post and save them as blog drafts, unable it press Publish; sometimes they are just things we make for fun (like the Glass Ceiling) that we don't wanna clutter the blog with.

I've actually used an e-meter, it was really amazing.

I was so impressed that I filled out a super long questionnaire, and the Church of Scientology used the info to graph my flaws and explain how Scientology can fix them.

It was extremely insulting, especially after taking time out of my day to humor them into thinking I would ever, in a thousand years, join their cult.

But, if you ever see one of those E-Meter demos, do it! They are really neat!

Its sold in plastic baggies- the fresh mango is cut and then you choose the seasoning (hot sauces, salt, white vinegar and black pepper) and mix it with the mango slices in the bag. It's a roadside snack- women will sell them on the medians of New Hampshire Ave* and in the residential areas of Langley Park.

For Cardamom vodka:

As always, use your favorite brand of vodka.

Pour 1/2 cup of vodka.

Add 1 teaspoon cardamom. I used mostly pre-shelled cardamom with and three green cardamom pods. The contents of the green pods were far more flavorful than the pre-shelled variety.

Allow to infuse 1 hour. Strain, and that's it, you are done!

We filled one half of the pitaya (Dragon Fruit) with a pitaya pulp and plum vodka gelatin, and the other half with a basil seed and plum vodka gelatin. The basil seed shots were favored over the pitaya pulps, though we did come up with a delicious vegetarian version with pitaya pulps that we will post soon.

The Frida Kahlo sugar skull mold is from La Sierna in NYC. Though it was purchased on October 31, when a Day of the Dead jello would be more appropriate, but we couldn't wait an entire year.

Made with egg mold and a filigree mold. We found a few egg molds at a thrift store, you can also buy them on Kraft Foods website for two or three dollars.

Filigree is made with slightly firmer jello.

Edible Glitter and food coloring.

Flavor-wise, these can be made with any flavor vodka, and clear-ish juices.

They are slightly larger than real eggs.
